My family has visited both, and while each is great, one may be a better fit depending on your plans.

These aren’t typical water parks—Disney puts a full story behind each one.
Blizzard Beach
Blizzard Beach is themed as a ski resort that melted in the Florida sun. Expect snow-covered peaks, ski lifts, and icy details mixed with water attractions, all tied together with a playful “melting blizzard” storyline.
There are also Frozen touches in the kids’ areas, which adds to its appeal for younger guests.
Typhoon Lagoon
Typhoon Lagoon has a tropical, storm-ravaged theme. The story centers on a powerful typhoon that scattered boats and debris across the island.
Its centerpiece—a shipwreck perched atop Mount Mayday—sets the tone for the park’s laid-back, beachy atmosphere.
Which Water Park Is Better for Younger Kids?
My pick: Blizzard Beach.
Blizzard Beach tends to be more approachable for younger kids. Areas like Tike’s Peak, Ski Patrol Training Camp, and other smaller attractions make it easier for kids who aren’t ready for bigger slides.
For families with toddlers or younger elementary-aged kids, this park is usually the better choice.
Which Water Park Is Better for Older Kids and Thrill Seekers?
My pick: Typhoon Lagoon.
Typhoon Lagoon leans more toward adventure. Attractions like Crush ’n’ Gusher, Humunga Kowabunga, and the large wave pool offer more intensity.
The wave pool, in particular, stands out. Its powerful waves create a more exciting experience compared to Blizzard Beach, making it a strong choice for older kids and thrill seekers.
Transportation: How Do You Get to Each Water Park?
Transportation is often overlooked when planning a water park day.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, complimentary transportation is available, but it may not be direct. Depending on your location, you might need to transfer.
Check the My Disney Experience app during your trip for the most accurate routes.
A few things to keep in mind:
Typhoon Lagoon transportation may involve a transfer through Disney Springs
Blizzard Beach transportation may involve a transfer through Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Complimentary parking is available if you’re driving
Minnie Vans or rideshare services can offer a more direct option
Always confirm your route before heading out.
What About the Food?
Food shouldn’t be a deciding factor.
Both parks offer similar quick-service options, snacks, and drinks. There are no table-service restaurants that would significantly influence your choice.
You’ll find plenty to eat, but neither park stands out over the other in this area.
Important: Check Which Water Park Is Actually Open
Disney’s water parks don’t always operate at the same time. Seasonal closures and refurbishments are common, especially outside peak summer months.
Before planning, check the operating calendar for your travel dates to see which park is available.
The Free Water Park Day on Check-In Day: Should You Use It?
For eligible Disney Resort stays in summer 2026, guests can receive water park admission on their check-in day at no extra cost.
This can be a great way to start your trip. Even if your room isn’t ready, you can leave your luggage with Bell Services and head to the park.
That said, it’s not the right choice for every family.
Use It If:
You arrive early
Your kids handle travel well
You enjoy water parks
You want to save your theme park tickets for later
Skip It If:
You arrive late
Travel days are exhausting for your family
Your kids need downtime to adjust
You’d only have a short window to visit
Free doesn’t always mean it’s the best use of your time. Sometimes a relaxed first evening at your resort is the better option.
My Personal Opinion: Would I Pay Extra for a Disney Water Park?
Probably not, mainly because my family doesn’t prioritize water parks.
Without the free check-in-day perk, we’d focus on the main theme parks instead. That said, both water parks have been a fun way to start our trips, and they’re worth considering if your family enjoys them.
My Final Pick: Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?
Here’s the simplest breakdown:
For younger kids: Blizzard Beach
For older kids and bigger thrills: Typhoon Lagoon
For families unsure about water parks: Use the free check-in-day option if it fits your schedule, but don’t force it
There’s no single “better” park—just the one that fits your plans.
